Avengers: Doomsday Explained — Doctor Doom, Multiverse War & Major Marvel Teams

Avengers Doomsday Explained featuring Doctor Doom and Marvel multiverse war storyline

The Avengers: Doomsday explained breakdown, including teaser clues, characters, and multiverse implications. Most people already know that Marvel has two upcoming movies: Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers Doomsday. However, fans are more excited about Avengers: Doomsday. The main reason is that Robert Downey Jr., who previously played one of Marvel’s most iconic characters, Tony Stark (Iron Man), is returning. In Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark sacrificed himself to stop Thanos and saved millions of lives. This time, however, Robert Downey Jr. is expected to appear not as a hero, but as a villain.

Robert Downey Jr Returns as Doctor Doom

He will reportedly portray one of Marvel’s most dangerous and intelligent villains, Doctor Doom. For those unfamiliar, Doctor Doom’s real name is Victor Von Doom. He is a genius scientist as well as a master of sorcery and advanced technology.

Since Doctor Doom is the main villain this time, there is a strong possibility that we will also see the Fantastic Four in the film. Based on teaser hints, characters such as the X-Men, Wakandans, Thunderbolts, Shang-Chi, and other superheroes may appear together. The presence of so many heroes in one movie suggests that Doom could be even more dangerous than Thanos. In simple terms, Doomsday appears to present a threat far greater than anything seen before.

What the Teasers Reveal

Marvel released four back-to-back teasers, each hinting at important details about Avengers: Doomsday.

 Thor Scene Meaning

In one teaser, Thor is seen praying for strength. Considering that Thor is one of the most powerful Avengers, the fact that he is praying for more power suggests that the enemy he faces is extremely powerful. In the teaser, Thor is holding Stormbreaker instead of Mjolnir. In Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor had given Stormbreaker to Love, his adopted daughter, while reclaiming Mjolnir. Thor holding Stormbreaker again indicates that something significant may have happened to Love, possibly connected to Doctor Doom.

The upcoming Avengers movie is expected to involve the multiverse and incursions. The multiverse concept has already been explored in previous Marvel projects such as Loki, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Many may wonder how Love connects to the multiverse storyline. In Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr the God Butcher used his final wish from Eternity to bring his daughter back to life. Eternity represents time, space, and existence itself. In Marvel lore, each universe has its own Eternity, and when a universe is destroyed, its Eternity also ceases to exist. If multiversal incursions occur, they could affect Eternity directly, which may explain why Love could be in danger and why Thor is desperately seeking strength.

X-Men Mansion Attack

Finally, many fans have long hoped to see the Avengers and the X-Men together, and this teaser suggests that it may finally happen. The Xavier Mansion is shown in poor condition, indicating that a major battle has taken place. Bullet holes in the library suggest that humans may have attacked the mansion. In another scene, Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto are seen playing chess, appearing older but reminiscent of their classic rivalry. Cyclops appears in a comic-accurate design, and Marvel may finally showcase his true leadership abilities and full powers. Behind him, large mechanical structures resembling Sentinels can be seen, which are known in Marvel lore as machines created by humans to hunt mutants.

Overall, Avengers: Doomsday appears to be building toward a massive multiverse-level conflict involving nearly every major Marvel team. If the teasers are accurate, this film could surpass previous Avengers movies in both scale and threat level.

Steve Rogers’ Return

Captain America makes a powerful return.

Steve Rogers’ return has become a major topic of discussion. Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, may  return to the Marvel Universe in a different form. In Marvel Comics, Steve once adopted another superhero identity known as Nomad. For those unfamiliar, Nomad was the persona Steve Rogers took on after discovering deep corruption within the government. He lost faith in the system and chose to operate independently in order to fight injustice.

His Nomad costume was very different from his Captain America suit. It featured blue and yellow colors and had a distinct design. This storyline can be explored in Captain America Issue #180, which was released in 1975. There is a possibility that Steve Rogers could appear in Avengers: Doomsday in his Nomad form.

Those who watched Avengers: Endgame know that Hydra had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. and other government organizations. At the end of the film, Steve Rogers traveled back in time to return the Infinity Stones and chose to remain in the past. Later, we saw an older version of him. If Steve stayed in the past timeline, he would likely have been aware of Hydra’s presence within S.H.I.E.L.D. and the government. Based on his personality, it is unlikely that he would remain silent about such corruption.

There is also speculation that Steve Rogers and Doctor Doom could temporarily form an alliance. Since Doctor Doom’s appearance resembles Tony Stark, Steve’s former friend, this could create an emotional connection. However, such a partnership would likely not last long, as Doom is driven by a deep hunger for power and would ultimately pursue his own agenda, even if it involves destructive actions.

Wakanda, Namor and Fantastic Four

In the Black Panther teaser, we see that Shuri has fully embraced her role as the protector of Wakanda. She appears ready to do whatever is necessary to defend her people and her nation.

Namor, the ruler of Talokan, is shown in a weakened state. In one scene, he is seated on a throne in what appears to be a desert. This raises two possible explanations. First, multiversal incursions may have caused massive environmental destruction, possibly affecting the oceans and Talokan itself. Second, Talokan’s people may have been forced to abandon their kingdom and seek refuge, possibly in Wakanda.

However, Shuri may not fully trust Namor and his people. If they are allowed refuge, it is possible they are being kept in a controlled or separate location for strategic reasons. We also see Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, an important member of the Fantastic Four. His character design and animation appear significantly improved compared to previous adaptations.

Six Key Characters in Avengers: Doomsday

Among all the expected characters, six may play particularly important roles: Doctor Doom, Captain America, Jean Grey, Loki, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange.

A combined multiverse visual connecting Loki, Spider-Man, WandaVision, Doctor Strange, End Game and X-Men events leading into Avengers: Doomsday.

Doctor Doom - Doctor Doom is expected to be the main villain, as suggested by the film’s title. He possesses the qualities necessary to become a major threat.

Captain America - Captain America may play a significant role due to the timeline changes caused in Avengers: Endgame when Steve Rogers remained in the past. His actions may have contributed to timeline instability.

Jean Grey & Scarlet Witch Power Balance -Jean Grey is significant because, in both comics and films, she possesses the Phoenix Force, one of the most powerful cosmic forces in the universe. Wanda Maximoff, on the other hand, has immense reality-altering abilities that can rival the Phoenix Force. Both powers have the capability to reshape reality itself.

Loki: The God of Time - Loki’s importance stems from the ending of Loki Season 2, where he becomes the God of Time and holds together the branches of the multiverse, ensuring each timeline has the freedom to exist. This makes Loki a major obstacle for Doctor Doom, especially if Doom intends to rewrite reality.

Spider-Man & Doctor Strange Connection - Spider-Man and Doctor Strange also have unfinished storylines. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man’s actions caused fractures in the timeline, and Doctor Strange attempted to repair the damage. However, the timeline may not have been fully restored. Additionally, Spider-Man considered Tony Stark his mentor. Since Doctor Doom resembles Tony Stark and possesses similar intelligence, there is a possibility that Doom could manipulate Spider-Man. Once Spider-Man realizes this, he may turn against Doom. There is also a chance that Spider-Man: Brand New Day may include hints of Doctor Doom or multiversal incursions.
